some ideas to try during literacy block
Try plastic cups write letters if alphabet on them or sight words as kids build the tower with cups they need to say the word/letter and sound
collect up old matchbox cars put white stickers on top write on letters or sight words - make 'carparks' on laminated mats - they have to park each car in right car park,
get ping pong balls write letters/sight words on them - get little nets from 2 dollar shop they can go fishing for them out of a large bucket and say words as the catch them,
make fiddle sticks out of coloured Popsicle sticks write a sound or word on end if each stick - place in a cup - partners tAke turns taking a stick if they can read word/letter they get to keep it if someone picks out the stick that has no word/letter and is coloured red at the end they say 'fiddle sticks' and have to put all their sticks back / winner is one at the end with most sticks - give them an egg timer!
Make flies with sight words give kids a fly swat to snap flies up with as they read
